【report】 A9 (Tokyo | EX-Theater Roppongi)

A9 – formerly known as Alice Nine – is a visual kei band, who is enjoying a manifest success ever since its debut in 2004. And the lastest concert they held would not silence their reputation ! On Friday December 25th, the Ex-Theater Roppongi of Tokyo welcomed the meticulously prepared performance of the group : all the scene design variables are on point, from the hair strands to the choreographed movements of the public, nothing is left to chance — which for some might reflect a lack of spontaneity or a more Rock N Roll touch. Yet it is still quite fascinating to witness a crowd become one : everyone is jumping in the same way, raising hands and fingers towards the same direction at the same rate, in the exact same pace. Everything is in its right place, nothing overflows except maybe the energy that was rising crescendo until the second encore. The group is very comfortable on stage, they control their game, their music. Special kudos to the bassist who was able to consistently groove the audience up from the beginning to the end ! Their recipe works : You do not get bored even if you are not familiar with the band’s universe. Mission accomplished !
